Swim-a-thon and Awards Night
Good evening,
We have added 2 events to the "Meets and Events" section of our website. The Swim-a-thon next Tuesday July 13th, and our end of the season Awards Night and Pool Party which will be held on Monday July 26th from 6-8.
**Please note that the Awards Night and Pool Party date has been changed.
It was originally put in Swimtopia for Sunday night the 25th, but needed to be moved to Monday night. If your RSVP is different due to the date change, please go in and change it in Swimtopia.
Please go in and RSVP for both events if you have not done so already. We are also in need of volunteers for the Swim-a-thon. If you were not able to fulfill a volunteer requirement earlier this season, this can count as a make up. We will also need additional volunteers to help count laps. We need at least 6 per practice. If you drop your kids off and/or attend the practice they go to, this is an easy way you can help.
Below is information on both the Swim-a-thon and the end of the season Awards Night and Pool Party.
2021 Swim-a-thon
**Swim-a-thon information and pledge forms have been placed in your family mailbox at the pool. If you do not have a form in your mailbox, please ask a coach for one! I have also attached the form to this email.
When? - Tuesday, July 13th - During regular practice time
Rain date: Wednesday, July 14th
WHY HAVE A SWIM-A-THON? Our swim-a-thon is the Pool Sharks’ primary fundraiser. Kids are directly involved in raising money for their team and having FUN while doing it!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Pool Shark swimmers will have one full practice to swim as many lengths as possible. One length is 25 meters (at the outdoor pool). Swimmers ask friends and families to support Pool Sharks by pledging a monetary amount prior to swimming. Some families choose to collect money before the event, while others get pledges per length and collect the money earned following the event.
Pledge Example:
Uncle Joe pledges 50 cents per length. You swim 100 lengths.
100 x $.50 = $50.00 OR Uncle Joe can pledge $50 as a flat donation.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SWIM-A-THON?
Swimmers are divided up into lanes and they have one full practice to swim any strokes, taking rests when needed. Parent volunteers sit at the ends of the lanes and count the lengths that each swimmer does. Prizes are awarded (at the end of year celebration) to swimmers with the most lengths for each age group (one for boys and one for girls) as well as for the top fundraiser (top girl and top boy overall).
- Swim-a-Thon will be conducted at the regular practice on Tuesday July 13th (rain date: Wednesday, July 14th).
- Turn in pledge forms on or before the event to the Swim-a-Thon mail folder, your age group coach, or at the Swim-a-Thon.
- Collect pledges, thank your sponsors for supporting Pool Sharks, and turn in a check payable to SPPS.
- Checks can be turned into the Swim-a-Thon mail folder.
**PARENTS** - We need your help with this! Sign up on Swimtopia to be a counter at your child’s practice times. This is worth volunteer hours, so please consider helping! If you missed volunteer hours at a home meet your child swam in, this is a way you can make up for those hours!
We ask that only swimmers who are participating in the Swim-a-thon come to practice that day. (July 13th) If your swimmer is not participating in the Swim-a-thon, they get the day off.
Awards Night and Pool Party
- When? - Monday July 26th 6-8 pm
- Where? - The Outdoor Pool
- What to expect - Swimmers will meet with their coaches at 6pm on the pool deck. If they received any awards from the Conference dual meet, they will receive them at that time. Once the coaches are done talking to their age groups and awards have been handed out, the pool will be open for swimmers and coaches to swim until 8 pm. Other family members are welcome to come, but will need to stay outside the fenced area of the pool. Our pool capacity is 150 people on deck and in the pool, so unfortunately will cannot accommodate other family members on deck or in the pool this year.
Please let me know if you have any questions about either one of these events.
