Meet deadline and updates

Greetings Pool Shark families,

Congratulations on a GREAT meet against Baraboo! They are always a good match up for our team and gave us some awesome races! If you noticed your swimmer's time was a little (or a lot) faster, you were right! I forgot to mention in my previous email that the Baraboo pool is shorter than our pool. The Baraboo Pool is 24.5 yards (don't ask me why) and our outdoor pool is the standard 25 meters, so the times that were posted at the meet were probably faster that what you are used to seeing. The times have been converted from Wednesday night to meter times and are now posted on our website.

Individual and team results are posted on our website under "Meets and Events." Click on "Meet results." They will be posted here after each meet. If your swimmer finished in the top 3 of their individual event, or their relay got 1st place, they earned a ribbon at the meet! Ribbons are in your family folder in the Pool Shark Mailboxes at the outdoor pool. The mailbox will be placed on the bench by the concession stand during practices. If it is not there, you can ask a coach to for it. Parents or swimmers may access their mailboxes at anytime.

The registration deadline for the Meet AT Sun Prairie (7/9/22) is MONDAY (7/4/22) at 11:30 pm. I know this is not ideal with the holiday, but it is how the calendar and our timing fell this year. I will send out another reminder on Monday, but PLEASE declare your swimmer now if you know they will be attending the meet if you have not done so already.

The process is simple. Login into your account and go to "Information" and scroll down to "Meet sign up instructions" to sign up for the meet. This is an away meet, so we do not need volunteers for this meet.

Tri-County Conference update - The Tri-County Conference is offering Shout-Outs for the Conference programs this year! Please see the attachment below for more information. These are due July 5th.

We are still looking for volunteers for the Tri-County Conference Swim meet! - Thank you to those of you who have already signed up! Every team is required to provide timers, clerk of course and officials to help run this championship meet! A volunteer sign up has been opened for the conference meet on our website.

Apparel for the Tri-County Conference meet will be available through our Simply Swimming team page from July 4th-July 17th. I will send out an email reminder next week with a direct link.

If you would like more information about the Tri-County Conference meet, please visit their website for details.

2022 Swim-a-thon -

**Swim-a-thon information and pledge forms have been placed in your family mailbox at the pool. If you need more than one form, there are extras in the back of the Pool Shark mailbox. This weekend is a great opportunity to ask friends and family to sponsor your swimmer for the Swim-a-thon!!

When? - Tuesday, July 12th - During regular practice times

Rain date: Wednesday, July 13th

WHY HAVE A SWIM-A-THON? Our swim-a-thon is the Pool Sharks’ primary fundraiser. Kids are directly involved in raising money for their team and having FUN while doing it!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Pool Shark swimmers will have one full practice to swim as many lengths as possible. One length is 25 meters (at the outdoor pool). Swimmers ask friends and families to support Pool Sharks by pledging a monetary amount prior to swimming. Some families choose to collect money before the event, while others get pledges per length and collect the money earned following the event.

Pledge Example:

Uncle Joe pledges 50 cents per length. You swim 100 lengths.

100 x $.50 = $50.00 OR Uncle Joe can pledge $50 as a flat donation.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SWIM-A-THON?

Swimmers are divided up into lanes and they have one full practice to swim any strokes, taking rests when needed. Parent volunteers sit at the ends of the lanes and count the lengths that each swimmer does. Prizes are awarded (at the end of year celebration) to swimmers with the most lengths for each age group (one for boys and one for girls) as well as for the top fundraiser (top girl and top boy overall).

  • Swim-a-Thon will be conducted at the regular practices on Tuesday July 12th (rain date: Wednesday, July 13th).
  • Turn in pledge forms on or before the event to the Swim-a-Thon mail folder, your age group coach, or at the Swim-a-Thon.
  • Collect pledges, thank your sponsors for supporting Pool Sharks, and turn in a check payable to SPPS.
  • Checks can be turned into the Swim-a-Thon mail folder.

**PARENTS** - We need your help with this! Sign up on Swimtopia to be a counter at your child’s practice. A chair will be provided for you to sit at the end of the lane and paper and pencil will be provided to keep track of pool lengths.

We ask that only swimmers who are participating in the Swim-a-thon come to practice that day. (July 12th) If your swimmer is not participating in the Swim-a-thon, they get the day off.

Swim-a-thon has been added as an event in Swimtopia, so if your swimmer(s) will be participating, please mark them as attending the event so we have an idea of how many swimmers we will have that day.

That is all for now. Enjoy your weekend off, and have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
