Meet and Conference deadline/Weekly update

Greetings Pool Shark families,

Congratulations on another great meet and more record breaking swims against Cross Plains! Thank you to all who volunteered and your patience to get through our longest meet, seeing over 250 swimmers compete! Meets would not be possible without you!

Individual and team results are posted on our website under "Meets and Events." Click on "Meet results." They will be posted here after each meet. If your swimmer finished in the top 3 of their individual event, or their relay got 1st place, they earned a ribbon at the meet! Ribbons are in your family folder in the Pool Shark Mailboxes at the outdoor pool. Since this was a home meet, all swimmers 10 and under who legally finished their individual races will receive a participation ribbon. We also give ribbons for 10 and under for earning 4th-6th places in individual events. Only 1st place gets ribbons for relays. The mailbox will be placed on a table between the lifeguard office and the concession stand at the outdoor pool during the 5:30 practices. If it is not there, you can ask a coach for it. Parents or swimmers may access their mailboxes anytime the outdoor pool is open by asking a coach or pool staff member to access it for you.

We have 2 meet deadlines for tomorrow.

We will be hosting our last home dual meet of the season this Saturday vs Wisconsin Dells. The registration deadline for the HOME Meet vs Wisconsin Dells (7/20/24) is TOMORROW NIGHT (7/15/24) at 11:59 pm. We are asking that you login to declare whether or not you're going to the meet if you have not done so already.

The process is simple. Login into your account and go to "Information" and scroll down to "Meet sign up instructions" to sign up for the meet. This is a home meet, so if you have a swimmer in the meet, make sure to sign up for a volunteer job to fulfill our volunteer requirements.

Tri-County Conference Meet information and deadlines - An email was sent a few weeks ago with all the information you need to know about the Tri-County Conference meet and Invite meet. It is also listed on our website under "Resources", "Tri-County Conference". Tri-county Conference Meet information

The registration deadline for the Tri-County Conference meet on 7/27 and 7/28 is TOMORROW 7/15/24 @ 11:59pm. This is a HARD DEADLINE, so please declare your availability for this meet as soon as possible, so our coaches can start working on their line ups. Also, this is a friendly reminder that your swimmer MUST compete in at least 3 dual meets to be eligible to swim in the Tri-County Conference swim meet.

  • Conference Volunteers - Each team is expected to supply volunteers to help run the Conference meet. We need to provide 16 timer shifts and 4 clerk of course shifts. We are still have timer shifts available for both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and clerk of course shifts available for both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.  These volunteer opportunities are available to sign up now, and are due to the host team by 7/20. If you need to make up for a missed volunteer job at a home meet where your swimmer completed, this can count as a make up for the volunteer requirement.

2024 Swim-a-thon! One of our biggest fundraisers is right around the corner!

**Swim-a-thon information and pledge forms have been handed out at practices. If your swimmer still needs a form, or you need more than one form, they can ask their coaches for one, or print one from the attachment below.

When? - Wednesday, July 17th - During regular practice times

Rain date: Thursday, July 18th

WHY HAVE A SWIM-A-THON? Our swim-a-thon is the Pool Sharks’ primary fundraiser. Kids are directly involved in raising money for their team and having FUN while doing it!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Pool Shark swimmers will have one full practice to swim as many lengths as possible. One length is 25 meters (at the outdoor pool). Swimmers ask friends and families to support Pool Sharks by pledging a monetary amount prior to swimming. Some families choose to collect money before the event, while others get pledges per length and collect the money earned following the event.

Pledge Example:

Uncle Joe pledges 50 cents per length. You swim 100 lengths.

100 x $.50 = $50.00 OR Uncle Joe can pledge $50 as a flat donation.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SWIM-A-THON?

Swimmers are divided up into lanes and they have one full practice to swim any strokes, taking rests when needed. Parent volunteers sit at the ends of the lanes and count the lengths that each swimmer does. Prizes are awarded (at the end of year celebration) to swimmers with the most lengths for each age group (one for boys and one for girls) as well as for the top fundraiser (top girl and top boy overall).

  • Swim-a-Thon will be conducted at the regular practices on Wednesday July 17th (rain date: Thursday, July 18th).
  • Turn in pledge forms on or before the event to the Swim-a-Thon mail folder, your age group coach, or at the Swim-a-Thon.
  • Collect pledges, thank your sponsors for supporting Pool Sharks, and turn in a check payable to SPPS.
  • Checks can be turned into the Swim-a-Thon mail folder.

We ask that only swimmers who are participating in the Swim-a-thon come to practice that day. (July 17th) If your swimmer is not participating in the Swim-a-thon, they get the day off.

Parents, we need your help! We need parent volunteers to help count lengths for the swim-a-thon. If you are able to help, please sign up for the volunteer job in Meets and Events, Swim-a-thon, in Swimtopia.

Coin War for Dells family - As some of you may, or may not know, the Wisconsin Dells swim team lost one of their 15 year old swimmers last week to a medical emergency. The Tri-county conference teams are rallying to help support the family who tragically lost their daughter. Other teams in our conference are choosing to coordinate a fundraiser and/or donate their concessions profits from the dual meet against them to donate to the family.

Our team has decided to host a Coin War competition between our age-groups to help raise money. We swim against the Dells this Saturday. We will be moving the containers to the indoor pool this week. All coins put in the container will count as positive points towards that age-group, and any bills will count as negative points towards that age group. Simply stated, you want to put coins in your age-group container to get points, and bills in other age-group containers to take points away. There will be a prize for the age-group with the most points at the end of the Coin war. The coaches will be talking to the swimmers about this as well, and can answer any questions you or your swimmer(s) might have.

We will also be donating all proceeds from the concession stand made during our swim meet against the Dells on 7/20. Thanks in advance for your support!

Facebook and Instagram - Our Sauk Prairie Pool Sharks have a Facebook and Instagram page. Please find, and follow us to see pictures from our meets and events, and for helpful information and announcements! Thank you to Carol Griggs for taking and sharing pictures from our meets and events!

Thanks for making to the end of another long email. This is a busy time of year for us, and we appreciate you reading our updates to stay informed!

Have a great week!
