Information for our home meet on Saturday

Hello Pool Shark families,

I am sending this email a day early. I am leaving this morning to head out of town for the weekend. Todd and Julie Wuerger will be taking on my role this weekend while I am gone. If there are any changes in regards to the meet on Saturday, they will communicate with you via Swimtopia. If you need to get in touch with either of them, their email is [email protected]

If any practices need to be canceled due to weather today, or tomorrow, our head coaches will communicate via Swimtopia as well.

Saturday we will be hosting Cross Plains at the Outdoor Pool! This will be our biggest meet of the season, with over 230 swimmers participating! We will try our best to have the meet completed by noon, but this meet may run a little later due to the number of swimmers participating this Saturday.

If this is your first swim meet, please see the "Swim Meet 101" section under the "Resources" tab on our website, or click the link below to know what to expect and how to prepare. Swim meet 101

If for some reason something comes up, and your swimmer is NOT able to swim, and they were signed up for the meet, please email our head coach Riley Talmage at [email protected] ASAP.

  • Please arrive at 6:45 am and have your swimmer(s) check in with their coach right away. Our warm-ups will be from 7:10-7:30 am. Cross Plains will have the pool from 7:30-7:50. The meet will start at 8:00 am.
  • Parking and new "unloading/loading zone"Currently 5th Avenue (on the west side of the pool) is under construction. We are unsure of what the driving/parking status of the road will be on Saturday. Since 5th Avenue may not be an option for driving/parking, we will provide an "unloading zone" area in our parking lot, so both team's families can drive cars up to unload pop-ups, chairs and other large items instead of having to haul them a farther distance from the pool. Please note that this is meant to be an unloading/loading zone only, and cars will not be allowed to park there for an extended period of time. This area will be marked off with cones.
  • If you want to see what your swimmer is swimming in the meet, it will be posted after 5pm on Friday. Go to the "Meets and Events" tab on our website and click on the gray meet entry box (that is marked closed). You will be able to see your swimmer(s) and what they are scheduled to swim at the meet. Also, if you have not uploaded the free Swimtopia App, it is very helpful in signing your swimmer up for meets and seeing what they are swimming.
  • Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer! All volunteers will need to check in with Todd Wuerger once you arrive and get set up. (Usually while the swimmers are warming up) He will be located in front of the boys locker room entrance/lifeguard office on the pool deck. You will then be told where to go and be trained for your job if needed. Timers will be checked in at the timers meeting at 7:45. Concessions workers, Todd will come into the concession stand sometime during your shift to check you in. This is how you get credit for your volunteering, so please be sure to get checked in first thing in the morning.
  • All timers MUST report to the Timer meeting at 7:45 am in front of the lifeguard office.
  • The forecast for Saturday is looking great so far! It's always a little chilly when we arrive, so plan to have sweatshirts, pants and blankets for the earlier part of the meet, and pop-ups, sunscreen, and water for when things warm up later in the meet.
  • The theme for Saturday's meet is Monochromatic! (Each age group is assigned a color) 8 and unders pink/red, 9-10's purple/blue, 11-12's green, 13 and ups black. Come dressed in your age groups assigned color to show some team spirit during the meet! (swimsuit underneath of course!)
  • Concession stand fruit - At each home meet a portion of the team is asked to bring cut up fresh fruit in a container/ziplock bag to the concession stand upon arrival to be mixed and served as fruit cups. This meet will be last names that start with E-J, please plan to bring fruit on Saturday :) Our home meet on July 1st will be families K-P. And our last home meet of the season on July 11th will be families Q-Z. If you know you will be missing the meet you are assigned to bring fruit, please plan to bring it to a home meet you will be attending.
  • Heat sheets will be for sale at the concession stand ($3), as well as breakfast burritos, fruit cups, a coffee bar and other breakfast and lunch items! The concession stand is CASH ONLY.
  • Clerk of course and flow of traffic. Swimmers will report to the gate by the concession stand to report for their events. Once they complete their races, they are to exit out the bathhouse through the locker rooms.
  • Results - Final race results will be posted throughout the meet on the results board by the main entrance of the bathhouse. It takes about 20-30 minutes to post results after each event. All final results of the meet will be posted to our website under "Meet and Events", "Meet results" sometime after the meet on Saturday.
  • Spectators are allowed to sit in the bleacher area, and outside the fence, but are NOT allowed on deck. Please do NOT stand along the fence in front of the bleachers. You will be asked to either sit on the ground or move because it blocks the bleacher viewing area. We allow swimmers on deck to cheer at the end of the lanes for other swimmers. They should stay at the ends of the lanes and not move to the side of the pool or other areas on deck. The ends of the lanes will be cleared for ALL 8 & UNDER events to make room for timers on that end of the pool. There will be deck stuarts to help enforce this, but we appreciate your help in talking to your swimmers about this before the meet.
  • Team Records - Team Records are posted on our website under “Meets and Events”, “Team Records”. These records are for our team only, and must be swam in the Sauk Prairie Outdoor Pool. Team records are from 2014-present and will also be listed on our home meet heat sheets for each event.
  • Once your child is done swimming all the events they are signed up for, you may leave. If you are not sure, please ask a coach to be sure they are done swimming before you leave.
  • Please continue to be a positive supporter of your child and their efforts, no matter what the outcome. Many of them might be trying something new and may be nervous. Remember, they are trying their best. Encourage them to display good sportsmanship, be good teammates, and have fun! :)
  • Lastly, if you are on Facebook, please follow our Sauk Prairie Pool Sharks FB page for updates and announcements!
